Consultant: Final Report for Positive Pathways: A No Lost Generation Summit on Psychosocial Support

(Amman – Jordan: December – January 2018)

Overview

War Child & Mercy Corps, with support from the regional No Lost Generation (NLG) Working Group, hosted a regional event that focused on psychosocial support programing for children and youth in the context of the Syria and Iraq crises. The event took place in Amman in late November 2017 and brought together humanitarian actors and researchers to explore and discuss proven and promising psychosocial support practices. The event showcased evidence and innovations from the region, strengthened partnerships across the NLG network and promoted the importance of psychosocial interventions across the region. To summarize the event, a report will be released outlining key highlights from each session along with key recommendations for stakeholders.

The No Lost Generation initiative is an ambitious commitment to action by humanitarians, donors and policy to support children and youth affected by the Syria and Iraq crises. It was launched in 2013, and is now in Phase II, which covers the period 2016-2018. Focused on adding value to existing efforts, No Lost Generation is embedded within existing humanitarian plans. Specifically, the No Lost Generation initiative:

  • Provides an overarching regional framework for key areas of the response.

  • Provides a platform for joint advocacy on the priorities for children and youth

  • Amplifies the voices and perspectives of adolescents and youth.

  • Links efforts in different sectors to achieve results on issues which cannot be addressed by one sector alone, such as child labour or child marriage.

  • Combines immediate response with strategic investments for the future.

  • Mobilises resources for sectors at risk of underfunding.

War Child seeks an individual consultant that can develop the final report from the event. While War Child will contract the consultant, and oversee the ongoing work, Mercy Corps, as co-lead of the event, will also need to be consulted on key decisions. Preferably, this individual will be based in Jordan and have Arabic language skills however remote work is also an option.

Specific tasks include but are not limited to:

  1. Reviewing all content from the event including agenda, session notes, presentations and video materials;
  2. Develop a first draft of the report according to the outline provided by Mercy Corps and War Child
  3. Clearly highlight key recommendations as a result of the event – this may require follow-up consultation with some of the presenters
  4. Incorporate relevant photos and quotes throughout the report
  5. Gather feedback from event Steering Committee members and incorporate feedback
  6. Finalise report according to feedback
