This new technical advisory role will lead on Child Safety and Safeguarding by developing policy, strengthening capacity and learning, and improving the quality of the environment in which children have access to in our programmes globally, including safety and safeguarding aspects. The role sits within our Programme Quality Team working with multi-sector specialists who train, support and advise staff and partners. The position is based in London with up to 40% travel. We may consider applications from candidates who are resident and willing to work from one of our international offices, if they have a right to work there. In this instance, a local competitive compensation package would apply.
Being the Child Safety and Safeguarding technical lead supporting the development and roll-out of policy, development of tools, strengthening capacity and learning, and improving the quality of our spaces and centres that children use, which are managed by our operational teams and partners globally.
Your responsibilities
• Develop a Child Safety Policy, Risk Registers and other procedures in relation to spaces which children access and are managed by programmes teams and partners
• Support colleagues in the country programmes to undertake risk assessments of all spaces accessed by children to implement mitigating and corrective measures
• Ensure all incidents are appropriately documented, reported and considered. Analyse trends from reporting mechanisms and provide management with recommendations for improvements
• Work with all country teams to strengthen child safety and safeguarding by strengthening capacities of staff and partners in risk assessments and mitigating steps
• Coordinate, plan and devise training on child safety and safeguarding for staff at different levels including e-learning content
• Embed international and organizational standards and provide technical input
• Travel to insecure environments to assist in the above (depending on security)
• Ensure regular liaison with management for regular reporting
• Support on Child Safeguarding incident reports and investigations with the support of Child Safeguarding Officers and Focal Points
• Work with colleagues to strengthen the implementation of the Safeguarding Policy and Procedures and to build the skills of colleagues and partners in managing concerns
• Maintenance of a system to document risks and concerns raised, ensuring that appropriate follow-up is conducted and that learning from implementing these processes is fed back into the organisation’s practice, policies and risk management • Support the development of child-friendly tools to highlight and respond to risks • Support a Community of Practice based on child safety awareness and meaningfully share learning and apply knowledge to build capacity
• Lead on organisational representation on child safety networks
• Help identify partnerships to strengthen child safety and risk management
• Undertake any reasonable tasks delegated from the line manager or senior management team consistent with the role and nature of the job and responsibility
