We’re looking for an experienced finance professional to join our team as the Senior Programme Finance Adviser. You will lead the programme finance team, ensuring quality and timely support is provided to our international teams, as well as providing information and analysis to senior management to facilitate decision making. Through your leadership the financial capacity of the organisation will grow by improving and developing new processes, tools and policies. You will already have previous experience of working in finance within an international non-profit organisation and have a good understanding of donor regulations and best practice policies and procedures within the sector. You are ambitious and eager to use your experience in a fast-paced organisation, to support children affected by war.

Your role

The Senior Programme Finance Adviser leads the programme finance team in London to support our international finance teams in all areas of financial management. Through your leadership the financial capacity of the organisation will grow by improving and developing new processes, tools and policies. You will establish a culture of innovation to ensure the programme finance team continues to adapt to the needs of War Child. You will be a trusted partner to the Head of Finance and work closely with counterparts in Programmes and in the wider organisation, providing information and analysis to support decision making.

Your responsibilities

  • Ensure that accurate and meaningful country financial information is available in a timely manner, and use this information to advise Head of Finance and the SMT (senior management team) in order to make informed decisions for the benefit of the organisation

  • Collaborate with counterparts in Programmes and Resources team to share knowledge and information, coach and advise to ensure cohesive support is provided to the country teams

  • Be a credible source of knowledge to the wider War Child staff about best practice financial management in our country programmes

  • Lead the overseas budget and reforecast process ensuring that the system is fit for purpose, accurate and timely

  • Lead the programme finance team, ensuring a consistent approach to financial management across War Child country programmes and develop a culture of change and innovation, to ensure War Child financial processes are fit for purpose in a growing organisation

  • Lead on finance projects to develop and improve War Child’s financial capacity

  • Quality assurance and approval of all proposal budgets and approval of all final financial reports

  • Lead programme finance team to ensure they have the knowledge, skills and motivation to achieve agreed objectives as well as supporting and coaching the overseas finance teams

  • Contribute to a learning environment by ensuring lessons learned are shared and addressed

  • Provide coaching and support development opportunities for the programme finance team to develop in-house donor knowledge and skills to enable the team to provide the necessary support and advice to other teams

  • Periodically travel to War Child country offices to deliver direct support to the finance team
