We are currently seeking an experienced humanitarian leader for a short-term assignment in Central African Republic for the period from as soon as possible in November 2020 to December 18th 2020. Background

War Child UK has worked in Central African Republic since 2011, supporting children and communities who have lived through the recent years of violent conflict. Our programme focuses on child protection, access to quality education and supporting livelihoods recovery. We have a particular interest in the effective reintegration of children formerly associated with armed groups, and with the psychosocial dimensions of the humanitarian response. We work with a range of local civil society partners, as well as implementing some of our own work directly.

Assignment

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

· Acting as Country Director for a temporary period until the end of November and then supporting the returning Country Director (anticipated 1st December) by leading on the programme portfolio and managing the Programmes Department through December.

· During this period manage and support the Senior Leadership Team

· Ensure that financial and narrative reporting to donors are completed on time to a high standard

· Collaborate with the Programme Operations Coordinator in London to ensure programme and grant management is on track

· Support the team in their annual planning process and submissions

· Provide line management support, including any performance management.

You are

• Experienced in leading international humanitarian programmes

• Experienced in team security management in fragile states and insecure settings

• Able to inspire team and partners to achieve results in a tough operational setting

• Compliance focussed with a strong sense of accountability for results and performance

• A great team leader and person manager, with demonstrable skills in performance management

• Fluent in French and English

We offer

· A temporary employment contract (preferred) or a consultancy contract (to be decided at point of offer)

Background checks

Appointment with War Child will be subject to the following checks prior to your start date:

  • a satisfactory police record check to include a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and/or an International Criminal Record Check, and a clear vetting and Due Diligence check
  • receipt of three satisfactory references
