Overview:
War Child works with children who, as a result of conflict, live with a combination of poverty, exclusion and insecurity. These children might include street children, child headed households, children conscripted into armed groups, and children who have been put in prison. Our mission is to support and improve the care and protection of children and young people who live with a combination of insecurity, poverty and exclusion in some of the worse conflict-affected places. Purpose of Post:
An opportunity has arisen for a Trusts and Foundations Manager to join War Child’s fundraising team. Reporting to the Head of Philanthropy, the purpose of the role is to take the lead in managing, and increasing, income generation from trusts and foundations.
The Trusts and Foundations Manager will sit in the philanthropy team managing a Trust Fundraising Executive and working alongside two Philanthropy Managers. The post holder will work closely with the Programmes Funding Unit to support the information flow and collaborative working between the Fundraising and Programmes teams.

Results oriented, the Trusts and Foundations Manager will have strong interpersonal and management skills together with a flexible and proactive approach. A) Job Specification: Task and responsibilites:
o With support from the Trust Fundraising Executive and Head of Philanthropy, lead on the development and delivery of a targeted and strategic programme of trusts and foundations fundraising, in order to achieve agreed annual net income targets
o Work with the Trust Fundraising Executive to systematically identify, qualify, and strategize a pipeline for repeat and multi-year grants for both unrestricted and restricted giving
o Develop and implement strong cultivation and solicitation plans for trusts and foundations to generate significant income from the portfolio
o To seek financial support for projects designed by the programmes team
o Work with the programmes team to develop appropriate and compelling cases for support and produce tailored written funding applications of the highest quality, for War Child projects and programmes
o Work with the programmes team to acquire the necessary information to report to donors
o Monitor income and expenditure targets and provide regular progress reports and updates on performance against target
o Attend high level cultivations events/meetings and represent War Child with commitment and enthusiasm to build new relationships and contacts for War Child, working with colleagues to ensure that new prospects are followed up and their interest capitalised on
o To support the wider philanthropy team targets as required. This will include assisting with the planning and delivery of philanthropy events, including the winter gala hosted by War Child’s Global Ambassadors
o Actively participate in regular department and team meetings, contributing to strategy discussion and decision that will be beneficial to the development of fundraising activities

Experience and mandatory criteria:
o At least 5 years’ experience of independently developing long term relationships with trusts and foundations
o Experience of working in a target led environment with a proven track record of delivering against targets
o Experience of successfully securing £25K- £100K + gifts from trusts and foundations
o Experience of contributing to fundraising strategies in line with the organisational plan
o Degree level or equivalent education
o Right to work in the UK
Technical Skills/Expertise:
o Understanding of trust and major donor fundraising
o An understanding of the needs of funders and an ability to cultivate personalised relationships to maximise opportunities to secure repeat and multi-year funding
o Experience of working effectively with programme funding and operations teams to translate plans into proposals and monitor delivery against grant agreements
o Excellent written and verbal communication with the ability to turn complex projects into compelling and winning cases for support
o Strong administrative, organisational skills and record keeping skills with the ability to meet multiple deadlines
o Highly numerate, with experience of budgetary management
o IT literate with good knowledge of Microsoft Office
o Experience of working with a fundraising database

C) Contract Terms
Working Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week.
Probation: 6 months
Start date: June/July 2016
Travel: Possible travel to War Child overseas country offices
Salary: £33,000 - £36,000 per annum
Leave: 28 days pa pro-rata, increasing by one day for each year’s service up to a maximum of 5 additional days
Pension: Matching contribution to your private pension up to 5% of gross salary
Other: As defined in standard War Child contract terms
