Location: Kentish Town, LondonOverview: War Child works with children who, as a result of conflict, live with a combination of poverty, exclusion and insecurity. These children might include street children, child headed households, children conscripted into armed groups, and children who have been put in prison. Our mission is to support and improve the care and protection of children and young people who live with a combination of insecurity, poverty and exclusion in some of the worse conflict-affected places. We look forward to a world in which the lives of children are no longer torn apart by war. This is a vision that can only be realised through the collective actions of children themselves, communities and their leaders, organisations like War Child, governments and key decision makers.

Purpose of Post:

The Digital Assistant will support the Head of Digital and Digital Officer in delivering digital communications and support with a specific focus on our new gaming initiatives.

We are about to launch an innovative gaming project featuring some of the biggest names in the industry. This role will work closely with our Corporate Partnerships team to ensure that we are effectively communicating our gaming initiatives and wider mission online.

The role sits within our Advocacy and Communications Department (digital, PR, media and advocacy) and so will also provide digital and admin support to those functions.

You’ll offer support and advice to the Digital and Fundraising teams. We’re looking for someone with a strong knowledge of gaming, social media and web communications to help us launch our exciting new gaming initiatives online.

A) Job Specification: Task and responsibilities:

  • Work with our Digital Officer to write and schedule tweets about our gaming partnerships and initiatives.
  • Monitor Twitter and other social media channels for content related to gaming and our gaming partnerships.
  • Advise War Child’s Digital and Corporate teams on gaming-related social media content, opportunities, and partnerships.
  • Write and upload new gaming and other content for War Child website.
  • Respond to public queries about our gaming projects.
  • Provide admin support to the Advocacy and Communications Department.

B) Person specification – Essential Criteria:

War Child’s office is a lively and fast-paced environment made up of a team of extremely dedicated staff & volunteers. We’re looking for someone who can fit in well and bring their personality, creativity and professionalism to our communications and the wider charity.

Experience:

· Right to work in the UK.

· Experience of using social media to maximize impact, and raise awareness.

· Experience of using content management systems and creating/editing web pages.

· Understanding or knowledge of the gaming industry and gaming in general.

· Understanding of wider social media landscape, trends and innovations.

· IT literate with strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and databases.

· Excellent interpersonal skills to deal with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

· Problem solving approach to work.

Desirable Criteria:

· Experience of working with creative agencies.

· Good understanding of UK/NGO sector digital landscape.

C) VOLUNTEER Terms

Working Hours: 3 days per week

Start date: ASAP

This is a voluntary position, with lunch and travel costs provided (for travel within zones 1-6 of London Underground).

While this is an unpaid, voluntary position you’ll gain invaluable insight into working in the charity sector. You’ll be at the heart of a busy international organisation; providing support, advice and content to maximise our communications impact.
