Overview:

War Child UK works with children who, as a result of conflict, live with a combination of poverty, exclusion and insecurity. These children might include street children, child headed households, children conscripted into armed groups, and children who have been put in prison. Our mission is to support and improve the care and protection of children and young people who live with a combination of insecurity, poverty and exclusion in some of the worse conflict-affected places. We look forward to a world in which the lives of children are no longer torn apart by war. This is a vision that can only be realised through the collective actions of children themselves, communities and their leaders, organisations like War Child, governments and key decision makers.

The Filmmaking Trainer is a consultancy role at War Child UK under the supervision of the Communications Officer in Jordan.

The Filmmaking Trainer will work closely with the Communications Officer in Jordan to support on Piloting the Youth Communications Champions components under TTBaC Project.

Purpose of Agreement:

To support on piloting the “Youth Communications Champions” components for TTBaC Project and to give 15 sessions of filmmaking at our sub-partner’s location in Zarqa. The purpose of these sessions is to give the beneficiaries an insight into the world of filmmaking, teaching them about the actual production of films and their role and purpose in communicating important ideas in our societies. In addition, they will learn how to convey an idea or concept using cinematic language and the basics of visual storytelling.

A) Job Specification: Task and responsibilites:

1. Render 15 sessions on specified date and time on filmmaking for 3 groups of young people in our sub-partner in Zarqa. Outline, deliverables and timeline of sessions will be provided.

2. Ensure successful deliver of outcomes for each group (15 perosn); at least one-minute film from each;

3. Responsible of editing at least (one-minute) film as a final product for each group;

4. Support the Communications Officer in developing training material and working plan for the next cycles for the “Youth Communications Champions” component;

5. Assess trainee knowledge and enthusiasm to make use of the learned skills;

6. Produce an evaluation report & share (both narrative/photographic) the outcomes of the training with the relevant parties;

7. Work in collaboration with the sub-partner’s Community Mobilizers during the sessions to ensure of team-work and harmony;

8. Support the beneficiaries (students) in self-learning and guide them with positive attitude.

9. Perform other related responsibilities as may be assigned.

B) Person specification:

War Child’s office is a lively and fast-paced environment made up of a team of extremely dedicated staff & volunteers. We’re looking for someone who can fit in well and bring their personality, creativity and professionalism to the wider charity.

Experience and mandatory criteria:

• A university degree preferably in film production, communications, multimedia or other related field.

• Good command of English Language spoken and written; Arabic as mother tongue;

• Minimum of two years of progressive experience in filmmaking, with experience in leading trainings and workshops with children.

Technical Skills/Expertise:

• Knowledge and clear vision on the role of filmmaking trainer within an international NGO like War Child UK working with children.

• Have a good theoretical knowledge of script writing, direction, cinematography, production design, and editing as well as facilitation skills.

  Competencies (Soft Skills):

• Motivated by and committed to War Child's values, vision and mission

• Strong written and verbal communication skills and able to communicate effectively with all key stakeholders, particularly young people by using clear, accurate yet simple language.

• Experience in child participatory methodologies.

• Able to building strong relationships with Community Mobilizers in War Child’s CBO who will be supporting throughout the sessions.

  Desirable Criteria:

• Experience of working with children affected by conflict.

C) Expected Deliverables

The consultant is expected to ensure the production of short films with the students and deliver the training sessions and thus help enhance the skills and knowledge of the participating students on the areas articulated in the position description and scope of work.

Working Hours: Part time job 4 days a week, (total working hours 62 )

Duration: 4 to 5 weeks
