The Corporate Development Manager role is crucial in helping to raise funds to enable our rapid growth and expansion of our impact. In preparing for the next stage of our growth we are looking to increase and diversify our income in a sustainable way.

This will include a major focus on building commercial partnerships, strategic partnerships and more international partnerships, which the Corporate Development Manager’s role will have a major part in delivering. They will also be a required to manage accounts and relationships with the support of the wider Corporate Partnerships team.

A) Job Specification: Task and responsibilites:

1. New Business:

  • To be accountable for the delivery of an element of the budget and to share accountability for the delivery of the income of the corporate partnerships team.
  • To conceive and deliver creative proposals with strong cases for support which engage companies in War Child’s work – targeting both CSR and marketing teams. This could include products, events, sponsorships, social media activity as well as more traditional philanthropic partnerships.
  • To help build a base of qualified corporate prospects by researching and identifying new opportunities, developing existing relationships and working with colleagues across the organisation including trustees and major donors to engage with their networks.
  • To convert prospects into donors, by developing strong relationships through personal visits, networking, writing proposals and making presentations.
  • To work closely with teams across the organisation including Programmes, Programme Quality, Finance, Comms & Advocacy and other Fundraising teams to prepare funding proposals, and deliver project work.
  • To ensure all War Child’s corporate fundraising meets appropriate charity law, and follows industry best practice, in particular Institute of Fundraising guidelines and Data Protection legislation.
  • To ensure the database is kept up to date with corporate relationships, and to keep and maintain up to date records of activity.
  • To ensure agreements are in place which set out the expectations and requirements of both War Child and each corporate partner, ensuring each partnership is transparent.
  • To undertake other duties as directed by the Head of Corporate Fundraising or Director of Fundraising.

2. Account management:

  • To account manage active corporate partnerships, maximising income and donor motivation and satisfaction, by creating effective relationships and exciting activity plans.
  • To develop and deliver communications plans that include existing activity planned by War Child teams and bespoke activity to complement the partner’s communications channels and tone of voice.
  • Maximise income from existing partners.
  • To ensure all active and potential corporate partners receive an excellent level of service, understand clearly the work War Child does, and feel positive about all their points of engagement with War Child.

3. Planning and Development:

  • Contribute to the strategic planning process for new and existing corporate partners in order to plan effectively for growth and funding opportunities.
  • To set annual budgets for income and expenditure, along with the Head of Corporate Fundraising, and provide regular updated forecasts.
  • Give consideration to cost efficiency at all times.

4. General

  • Update the fundraising database and maximise its potential as a fundraising tool.
  • Ensure all War Child fundraising activity, as a minimum requirement, adheres to the Fundraising Standards Board and Institute of Fundraising’s Codes of Conduct and is tax effective.
  • Ensure all companies we work with adhere to our Child Safeguarding Policy and are in line with our ethical fundraising policy.
  • Submit reports on fundraising activity as required.
  • Monitor and evaluate fundraising activity as and when required.
  • Perform other duties as may be required from time to time by the Deputy Director of Corporate & Donor Fundraising to support delivery of the wider organisational strategy.
  • To update databases and supporter information systems on a regular basis in line with Data Protection legislation and War Child policy and procedures.
  • To ensure that there is effective and regular, timely and accurate reporting against plans, budgets and objectives in line with the fundraising team and War Child as a whole.
  • To be self-servicing in all administrative tasks.
  • Maintain an up to date knowledge of current activities of War Child and be an advocate of the War Child brand at all times.
